Ms Emma Goddard

Clinical Psychologist

Ms Emma Goddard is a Clinical Psychologist with 20 years of experience in oncology. She supports people during and after cancer treatment at Hunter Blood Group in Newcastle West.

A cancer diagnosis can have a profound psychological impact, leading to emotions including fear, anxiety, sadness, and uncertainty about the future. Psychology can help people navigate these challenges, manage stress, strengthen coping strategies, and address depression, body image concerns, and changes in self-identity that may arise from surgery or treatment side effects.

Emma uses a range of therapeutic interventions tailored to each person's needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness techniques, and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). Her aim is to enhance emotional resilience and promote a better quality of life.

After treatment, psychological support can help people adjust to survivorship, reduce the risk of long-term mental health difficulties, and rebuild a sense of normality and hope. Above all, Emma aims to provide a safe environment where people feel heard, understood, and supported through one of life's most challenging experiences.

Psychological therapy is a supportive and personalised process. During the first consultation, Emma will get to know you and discuss your needs and what you would like from therapy. Together, you will determine the frequency of appointments. There is never any pressure to discuss anything you do not want to discuss; Emma is guided by you and your needs.

Appointments with Emma are available on Thursdays from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at Hunter Blood Group, Suite 2, 710 Hunter Street, Newcastle West.
